Let Haiti Rebuild Itself

Share

Re “$1 Billion Needed to Rebuild Haiti, U.S. Says,” July 8: Let Haiti rebuild itself on its own nickel for a change; the country is always a bottomless pit for donated or borrowed money. Its population is way too high to be sustained by the island’s resources, and there are no native leaders bold or strong enough to take the necessary steps to force the country to ever be anything other than a beggar nation. It’s a sad state for the Western Hemisphere’s second-oldest democracy. No amount of money will ever help this poor country, as past experience has shown multiple times. Why bother bailing out a Titanic with a teacup? It will just extend the misery for a little while longer.
