Reflecting on Faith Amid Parish Closings

Share

Re “A Parish, and Its Faithful, in Limbo,” July 9: I understand the sadness and helplessness that is felt by the parishioners. I lost my little house several years ago, also due to financial issues out of my control. Although this will always hurt somewhat, I learned that wherever my family is will be “home.”

To despair over the loss of mortar and bricks is human, but I think God knows we can rise above this and, hopefully, be stronger. My father, a World War II veteran, always said the most rewarding Mass he ever attended took place far from home, on the back of a truck in Italy in 1944. Sometimes we need to be reminded that God is everywhere, or as the writer James Joyce said, “God is a shout in the street.”
