A 13-year-old boy was killed late Saturday when the truck in which he was riding rolled and landed upside down on an embankment in the North Ranch area of Thousand Oaks, authorities said.

Gregory Chase Arnett of Thousand Oaks was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Capt. Chris Lathrop.

An autopsy Sunday showed that he died from head injuries, a coroner’s official said.

Arnett was a passenger in a truck being driven at high speed by a 16-year-old Thousand Oaks boy, Lathrop said. He declined to identify the driver because he is a minor.

The truck was eastbound on Valley Spring Drive near Club View Drive about 10:15 p.m. when it skidded off the roadway, Lathrop said.

The driver and a second passenger, a 15-year-old from Thousand Oaks, were taken to Los Robles Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, Lathrop said. Debris from the accident slightly injured two bystanders, Lathrop said.

An investigation will determine whether charges will be filed against the driver, he said.
