Re “A Class Struggle on Venice Boardwalk,” July 12: Actually, it started before Raku [a Labrador dog] decided to expose the inadequacies of Grassroots Venice Neighborhood Council voting procedures. The first candidates to run for office on the Progressive slate offered highly political platforms that reflected a stridently partisan agenda. Even before they were elected, it was apparent that these Venice residents considered the neighborhood council a good base to further their own agendas.

The result has been as unfortunate as it was predictable. The Progressive board members of the council have been too busy pursuing their social agenda to listen to their constituents. The “opposition” consists primarily of other liberals also concerned with the welfare of the homeless.
