Flaws Seen in Inquiry of Rights Worker’s Death

From Times Wire Reports

Mexico City’s official human rights commission said it found irregularities and flaws in official inquiries into the death of human rights worker Digna Ochoa.

The body of Ochoa, who was shot in the head, was discovered Oct. 19, 2001, in her Mexico City office. Prosecutors ruled the death a suicide, but her family has insisted she was murdered.

The commission found that the written description of the scene where Ochoa’s body was found did not match photographs. It didn’t rule on the cause of death. Ochoa had repeatedly reported death threats while working on cases involving abuses by police and the army.
