Lynx Show Balance in Win

Tamika Williams scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack, and the Minnesota Lynx defeated the San Antonio Silver Stars, 66-53, Wednesday night in front of 8,111 at Minneapolis.

Both teams were without their Olympians -- Minnesota’s Katie Smith and San Antonio’s Shannon Johnson each sat out with knee injuries.

Svetlana Abrosimova replaced Smith in the starting lineup and contributed nine points and six rebounds in her first start of the season. Rookie Nicole Ohlde had 10 points and Helen Darling added nine points and five steals for Minnesota (14-10).

Semeka Randall and Adrienne Goodson each scored 10 points for the Silver Stars (6-18).

Smith is expected to be out two to three weeks with a bruised right knee, but she still plans to play in Athens.

Detroit 73, Washington 65 -- Swin Cash had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Shock (12-13) beat the Mystics (10-14) in front of 11,463 at Washington.

Chamique Holdsclaw, the league’s second-leading scorer, returned to the Mystics’ lineup after missing five days for personal and medical reasons. She scored 12 points on three-for-13 shooting.

Deanna Nolan had 13 points and Barbara Farris added 11 for Detroit, which ended a road losing streak at five games.

Charlotte 63, Indiana 53 -- Rookie reserve Nicole Powell scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Sting (12-11) past the Fever (12-14) in front of 7,171 at Indianapolis.

Allison Feaster and Tammy Sutton-Brown also had 14 points for Charlotte, which had a 39-29 lead at halftime. Tamika Catchings had 13 points for Indiana, which has lost five in a row.
