Music and fun in the sun for KidsDay

What better place to recognize a day devoted to kids than an amusement park?

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will be the setting Sunday for the observance of the fourth annual National KidsDay, with a kickoff at 9 a.m. and a free concert later in the morning. Area chapters of Boys & Girls Clubs are expected to be out in force.

National KidsDay, promoted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Pennsylvania-based nonprofit group Kids- Peace, underscores the need for parents and caregivers to spend meaningful time with their children.

A ceremony at 9 a.m. that includes an appearance by the Laker Girls will kick off two hours of activities sponsored by the Venice club. Last year’s event drew about 4,000 kids.

At 11 a.m., kids will be treated to a performance by pop singer Juliet, who has a punky look, catchy songs and family-friendly themes. The singer, who performs at amusement parks, schools and kids’ events, is releasing her first album, “Whatever,” this fall on the Studio City-based Del Oro label.
