Sustainable living tips

It was a pleasure reading Susan Carpenter’s article (“To Be Green in L.A.,” July 22). There are many other great stories out there in the same vein.

I work for a nonprofit environmental organization in Santa Monica that gives free workshops to residents, students and businesses on ways to be more sustainable in an urban environment.

We realize it’s a stretch to imagine L.A. residents giving up their cars en masse, planting their own gardens and retooling their pipes to use bathwater to irrigate their yards, but we have about 20 recommendations in the areas of water, energy, waste, chemicals, transportation and food to help cut down the footprint of the average resident.
