Candidates Focus on Gay Rights, Abortion

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, struggling to seize the initiative in a lackluster election campaign, warned that his Conservative opponents could curb gay rights and clamp down on access to abortion if they win the June 28 vote.
With the emotionally charged issues moving to the fore in the campaign, Conservative leader Stephen Harper was quick to deny any plans to limit abortion.
