Chicago White Sox right fielder Magglio Ordonez will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in Chicago today and is expected to be sidelined four to seven weeks.

The White Sox put him on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to May 26. He was injured May 25 against the Texas Rangers while swinging at a pitch. Trainer Herm Schneider said the club suspected Ordonez had torn cartilage.

They were also fined undisclosed amounts by Bob Watson, baseball’s vice president of on-field operations. La Russa started his suspension Friday. McClendon, whose Pirates beat Chicago, 2-1, on Friday, was to begin his suspension today.

Both managers were ejected with two out in the top of the ninth inning after Pirate reliever Mike Gonzalez sent Tony Womack to the dirt with a high, inside pitch. La Russa yelled at him, and that prompted McClendon to confront La Russa.
