Liberty Wins Its Sixth in a Row, 62-57

The New York Liberty extended its winning streak to six, defeating the Silver Stars, 62-57, at San Antonio on Saturday night.

Becky Hammon scored 12 points and Elena Baranova and Shameka Christon had 11 for the Liberty (6-1), which matched the longest winning streak in franchise history.

New York staved off a furious comeback by the Silver Stars, who trailed by 23 points in the first half, but cut that lead to three when Shannon Johnson made the second of two free throws with 1:38 left.

Baranova secured the victory when she made two free throws with 30 seconds left.

Adrienne Goodson had 15 of her 17 points in the second half for the Silver Stars, who have lost three in a row.

The Liberty opened with a 16-2 run and grabbed a 37-20 halftime lead.

The league’s top shooting team shot 63% (15 for 24) from the field in the first half and outscored San Antonio 20-4 in points in the lane.

San Antonio didn’t make its first basket until 11:05 in the first half.

Minnesota 76, Phoenix 68 -- Tamika Williams had a career-high 22 points and Katie Smith scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half for the Lynx at Minneapolis.

Mercury rookie Diana Taurasi had 13 points on five-of-13 shooting, but she made only one of her final eight shots and fouled out with 51.3 seconds left. Phoenix led by 14 points in the first half but shot only 33% in the second.

Indiana 70, Charlotte 57 -- Tamika Catchings scored 19 points for the Fever at Indianapolis.

After a three-point basket by Kristen Rasmussen gave the Fever a 57-43 lead with 9:01 to play, Indiana didn’t make another field goal until Deanna Jackson’s layup with 32 seconds left.

Allison Feaster led the Sting with a season-high 18 points.

Seattle 65, Sacramento 63 -- Betty Lennox made a running shot with 0.9 seconds left to lift the Storm at Sacramento.

Yolanda Griffith, who led the Monarchs with 20 points and 11 rebounds, missed an off-balance shot at the buzzer.

Sheri Sam scored 17 points for the Storm, and DeMya Walker had 17 points for the Monarchs.
