Pictures of Decorum at Portrait Unveiling

I write this letter while watching the unveiling of the Clinton portraits on Monday. Never has George W. Bush been more impressive. Never has Bill Clinton been seen more clearly as a man who deserved to be president.

How I hope this moment in history will inspire the best in the people of our great country.

I want to nominate President Bush for a courage award. Monday, he had to preside over a ceremony in the White House as they unveiled the Clintons’ portraits to be hung there with all previous presidents and first ladies. Despite that Clinton was an abject embarrassment to our country and demeaned the office of the presidency, President Bush said some kind words and didn’t hesitate once. That took a lot of courage.

I was pleased to see the magnificent portrait of former President Clinton that will now hang in the White House and was gratified to see the magnanimous comments by President Bush in reference to its installation. Now I will be even more fascinated (with apologies to Oscar Wilde) to see just how much the image changes over the next few years.
