Cash Scores 29 in 84-74 Shock Win

Swin Cash scored a career-high 29 points, helping the defending WNBA champion Detroit Shock beat the Monarchs, 84-74, on Saturday in Sacramento.

Cash had 17 points in the second half, in which the Shock (6-3) pulled away from the Monarchs (3-7). She made 10 of 15 shots and eight of 11 free throws for Detroit, which started the season 1-3 but has now won five straight.

“Everyone is starting to contribute now, we weren’t doing that early in the season,” Cash said. “Right now, we’re playing well and feeding off each other.”

Tangela Smith scored 21 points for the Monarchs, who trailed by as many as 22 and lost for the fourth time in five games.

Seattle 74, San Antonio 61 -- In her 100th WNBA game, Lauren Jackson scored 27 points to help the Storm (8-2) push their winning streak to six games with a victory in San Antonio.

LaToya Thomas had 16 points for the Silver Stars, a WNBA-worst 3-9.

Minnesota 66, Houston 58 -- At Minneapolis, Katie Smith scored 22 points to help the Lynx (5-5) end a two-game losing streak.

Sheryl Swoopes, slowed by a sore right ankle, scored 18 points for the Comets (6-6).*

Indiana 70, New York 65 -- Tamika Catchings had 25 points and 12 rebounds, both season highs, for the Fever (6-4) at Indianapolis.

Elena Baranova scored 18 points for the Liberty (6-5), which lost its fourth straight game.
