3 Bank Robbery Suspects Chased Down, Arrested
Three bank robbery suspects led police on a high-speed chase Thursday that ended outside the South Los Angeles home of the fleeing driver’s mother.
Police had tried to pull over a driver and passengers at about 9:30 a.m., shortly after a robbery at the City National Bank branch at 5252 Katella Ave. in Los Alamitos.
During a 50-minute chase north on the 605 Freeway, the suspects threw money from the car while swerving through traffic, police said.
Sheriff’s deputies and a helicopter joined Los Alamitos police in the chase as it went through Compton.
The car finally stopped on the front lawn of a house near 48th Street and Budlong Avenue.
The driver ran into the house. His mother, who was standing on the sidewalk, pleaded with officers not to harm her son.
Deputies arrested a man and woman who were in the car and the driver surrendered a short time later.
Authorities did not release their names.
