* Joe Hansen, a meat cutter from Milwaukee, took charge of the 1.4-million-member United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. He replaced Doug Dority, who retired after 10 years as international president.

* Boise Cascade Corp., the third-biggest office products retailer, will eliminate 1,100 jobs as it shuts 45 of its OfficeMax retail stores. The stores will be closed by June 30, Boise Cascade said in a regulatory filing.

* A virulent strain of bird flu found on a Texas chicken farm last month appears to have been successfully contained, the U.S. Agriculture Department said. Poultry farms within five miles of the infected flock have not been infected. Officials now are testing farms within a 10-mile radius.

* Low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways Corp. said it planned to expand its fleet by more than five times its current size in the next few years and extend its routes to overseas destinations.
