It Certainly Wasn’t Best Week for Hockey

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman will determine if Vancouver’s Todd Bertuzzi can play in this summer’s World Cup based on the progress of Colorado’s Steve Moore’s recovery. What kind of message does this convey?

Perhaps if Moore had been able to skate away from Bertuzzi’s cowardly attack, the NHL would once again turn its back.

Well, let’s see. In the span of one week, the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers combine to set an NHL record for most penalty minutes in one game with 419, and in another NHL game, a Canuck player viciously attacks a player on the Avalanche.

If anyone’s still wondering why the NHL’s popularity has been steadily going down the tubes in recent years, look no further than those two games.
