Immigrant Smuggling
Re “Trucker May Face Death Penalty,” March 16: Though I agree that a powerful message must be sent regarding rampant human smuggling on our borders, thinking of high-profile death penalty cases with “dream team” lawyers made me wonder if this smuggler should bring into court with him, as co-defendants, everyone who encourages or benefits from illegal immigration.
Corrupt politicos and corporate greed help to create the corrosive institution of illegal immigration in which that truck driver was just one opportunistic participant.
Death to one cog in a mighty machine, while letting the more affluent or well connected go free to continue their push/pull on desperate people, doesn’t make much sense.
