U.S. Soldier Who Killed Cameraman Exonerated
From Times Wire Reports
The U.S. Army said a soldier who fatally shot a Reuters cameraman in Iraq acted according to the rules because he feared that the man’s camera was a rocket launcher.
Reuters disputed the conclusion, saying better communication among soldiers could have prevented Mazen Dana’s death.
The Army called the August death “tragic and regrettable.” It said, however, that the unidentified soldier had “reasonable certainty” that Dana was about to fire on a U.S. patrol.
