Musical rut

Thank you, Scott Timberg, for a well-written and -considered article (“Salvaging Shelved Classics,” March 21). I’m a local cellist (L.A. Opera, Pasadena Symphony, sundry chamber groups), and am continually mystified by the great numbers of my colleagues -- let alone audience members -- whose curiosity has seemingly been stunted (or perhaps was never there to begin with).

You and your band of expert witnesses (and it’s good to see Bill Weber back in the pages of The Times, however fleetingly) did a good job of ferreting out the prime culprits (and the champions), though I do despair of ever being able to do anything about the way things are, save for programming and playing what I love.
