S.F.’s Main Attraction Is Easy Access
Why shouldn’t Los Angeles’ boosters “pretend” that it can compete with San Francisco when it comes to cultural attractions (“Tour Operators Leave Hearts In L.A.,” Tuesday)?
The Los Angeles Philharmonic is more prestigious than the San Francisco Symphony. LACMA, the Getty, Norton Simon, the Huntington and MOCA are more than a match for San Francisco’s museums. L.A. is competitive with San Francisco in the larger theater scene and blows away San Francisco in the smaller theater scene.
An answer to why Los Angeles doesn’t have a better cultural reputation is noted in the article by the phrase “easily accessible.” It is hard to enjoy all the cultural resources because it is hard to get there to enjoy it all. This is one more reason it is vital to keep expanding Metro Rail.
Just as the tour operators understand rail lines make Los Angeles more attractive to out-of-town visitors, so will an improved rail network make the city’s treasures more accessible to those who live here.
