Darcy Rice’s article “The Fashionable Best Friend” (Men’s Fashion Issue, Metropolis, April 18) is absurd. The multibillion-dollar pet industry knows that dog owners substitute their pets for meaningful relationships. Today’s dog owners bathe with their dogs, eat with their dogs and sleep with their dogs. Now, Rice touts, no wardrobe is complete without a dog: It is important that your dog fit your “inner life.”

Browse magazines for men’s fashions: See a dog. Browse the newspaper to purchase shaving cream: See a dog. Los Angeles’ high-paid advertising executives think that every ad needs a dog to sell an item. Now well-dressed men need a dog to match their shape. What’s next?
