Beastie Boys in Roast lineup
The Beastie Boys’ second Southern California appearance in six years and performances by two other bands with highly anticipated albums -- the Hives and Velvet Revolver -- highlight the roster of the 12th annual KROQ Weenie Roast concert, to be held June 12 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine.
The Beasties, whose album “To the 5 Boroughs,” comes out the following week, are emerging from a long period of concert inactivity. Velvet Revolver, a teaming of Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland and three members of Guns N’ Roses, will release its debut album the week of the concert. The Hives, from Sweden, have their second U.S. release due in July.
The Weenie Roast, which has become Southern California’s traditional kickoff of the summer concert season, also features Bad Religion, Cypress Hill, Hoobastank, the Killers, Modest Mouse, New Found Glory, the Strokes, Story of the Year, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Yellowcard.
Tickets will go on sale Saturday, with proceeds going to AIDS Walk OC, the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center, the Surfrider Foundation and Heal the Bay.
