Firefighters Might Get Housing Help From City
Volunteer firefighters might get city help to buy a house.
A housing-assistance program would help members of the city’s volunteer Fire Department with a home loan if they fell within income guidelines of the Guadalupe Redevelopment Agency. The proposal is being considered this week.
The idea is to help the city retain quality firefighters because it does not have the money to make them full-time employees. If successful, the pilot program could be expanded to other city employees.
The median cost for a home in the Central Coast city is $210,453, though some houses are listed for well over $300,000.
