Surfer Reports Attack by Great White Shark
A surfer says a great white shark knocked him from his board near Salmon Creek Beach, prompting rangers to post warnings on the state beach at the start of the holiday weekend.
Butch Connor, 44, of Windsor, Calif., said the 8- to 12-foot-long shark attacked him about 11 a.m. Friday about 100 yards from shore. Connor said the shark swam straight at him and knocked him into the water, but that he hit it with his board until it swam away. “I’ve always known what the meaning of terror was,” he said. “Now I understand what terror is.”
