They’ll start with a ‘Wedding’

“A Perfect Wedding,” a world premiere comedy by historian-turned-playwright Charles L. Mee, will open the inaugural season of the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City. The 300-seat, renovated 1940s-era theater was born out of a 35-year campaign by Center Theatre Group’s founding artistic director Gordon Davidson to create an intimate space to complement the group’s downtown L.A. venues, the Mark Taper Forum and Ahmanson Theatre.

With a nod to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” Mee sets his romp in a mystical forest where four “radical fairies,” two gravedigger philosophers and other guests attend a young couple’s nuptials. Davidson is directing; Tony Abatemarco, John Fleck and Wilson Cruz are among the 20-member cast.
