Those Who Can’t Hear Can Certainly Still Drive

“Having Deaf Drivers at UPS Raises Alarms” (Letters, Oct. 31) is off-base.

I’ve read in several places that people who can’t hear are often better drivers. First, we’re not on cellphones while we’re driving. Second, we rely on our eyes more than the average person, enabling us to catch things most might otherwise miss.

Furthermore, there is equipment to help notify the driver if there are sirens nearby. People with hearing loss may not be able to do some things, but driving isn’t one of them.
