Where was Brit?

At the start of his critique of Fox News [“A Week on a High-Octane Diet of Pure Fox News,” Nov. 9], Patrick Goldstein notes that Fox concedes that its commentators may lean to the right while its news programming is straight down the middle. Yet Goldstein spends much of his time criticizing Fox commentators such as self-acknowledged conservatives Sean Hannity and Charles Krauthammer.

Goldstein spends little time on the highly regarded Brit Hume, Fox’s lead prime-time news anchor. He accurately describes Hume as not being charismatic, while failing to note that millions of news watchers apparently appreciate a respite from the normally sensationalistic and superficial coverage the big three network news anchors routinely provide.

No, I wouldn’t want everyone to be watching only Fox News. But I would hope Goldstein’s reporting wouldn’t dissuade a single viewer from at least occasionally checking out an alternative to the cookie-cutter approach of the old-guard news broadcasts.
