Construction Journals From 1943 Are Seized
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Agents from the federal Bureau of Reclamation seized a pair of 61-year-old journals from a Redding thrift store earlier this month, concerned that the books were a terrorism risk.
The 1943 construction diaries contained information about the building of the Shasta and Keswick dams, said Jon Austin, a volunteer at the Second Time Around Thrift Store.
Reclamation spokesman Jeff McCracken said that after spotting the items on EBay, department officials decided to keep the documents out of public circulation.
