Former INS Officer Gets 4-Year Prison Term

A former officer with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service was sentenced Monday to nearly four years in federal prison for demanding sex and cash from two Chinese women seeking asylum.

Thomas A. Powell Jr., 60, of Pomona was convicted in August of federal corruption charges and civil rights violations in connection with the offenses, which occurred in 2000.
