No. 22 Washington Gets Past Utah, 78-71

Nate Robinson scored 29 points to help No. 22 Washington defeat Utah, 78-71, Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Great Alaska Shootout at Anchorage.

After the Utes (1-1) tied the score at 66-66 with 2:50 left, the Huskies (2-0) scored nine consecutive points to clinch the victory.

Robinson, held to two points for nearly 15 minutes of the second half, made three key baskets down the stretch to slow down the Utes.

A Boise State player was stabbed during a Wednesday night fight in downtown Boise and another was arrested on a felony theft charge.

Eric Lane, a sophomore guard from Bellflower St. John Bosco High, was stabbed in the side. He has been released from a hospital, Bronco Coach Greg Graham said.

Tezarray Banks, a junior forward from Cerritos College, turned himself in to authorities after learning police were looking for him on suspicion of possession of a stolen credit card. After being released, he was suspended.

WOMEN’S GAMES

No. 4 Texas 74, No. 1 Tennessee 59 -- The Longhorns extended their home winning streak to 38 -- the longest in the nation -- and ended a seven-game losing skid to top-ranked teams. Texas (2-1) hadn’t defeated a No. 1 team since beating Tennessee in 1987. The Lady Vols (3-1) shot only 33%.

Tiffany Jackson made two baskets and had three blocks in the first two minutes of the second half. Then she made a short jumper, followed by a steal and layup to give Texas a 41-30 lead with 14 minutes to play.

In other games, No. 15 Purdue (2-1) held Arkansas (2-1) without a basket for the last eight minutes in a 55-51 victory in the opening round of the Flint Hills Resources Islander Classic at Corpus Christi, Texas.... Freshman guard Matee Ajavon scored 29 points to lead No. 17 Rutgers to a 68-50 victory over South Dakota State in the opener of the Paradise Jam tournament at Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands.
