Re “Ukrainian Leader Calls for Talks to Solve Crisis,” Nov. 24: Suppose two democracies stage their November elections and both are beset by a host of irregularities: bizarre discrepancies between exit polls and the final count, mishandling of absentee ballots, flawed voting lists, widespread mistrust of electronic voting results.

In one democracy, the media cry foul, 150,000 citizens take to the streets and the opposition candidate takes a mock oath of office.

In the other democracy, the opposition candidate swiftly concedes, as the media proclaim a mandate and the electorate remains docile. Which democracy is healthier?
