35 Illegally Converted Condos to Get Permits

From Times Staff Reports

The City Council on Monday agreed to issue permits legalizing 35 condominiums on nine properties that were illegally converted from apartments, a city spokeswoman said.

Five title companies involved in the conversions have promised to pay the costs of the conversions.

The vote was unanimous, with two council members absent, Laurie Payne said.

The condos, she said, are believed to constitute only a portion of the city’s illegally converted units, which some estimates put as high as 120.
