Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger named Monterey real estate agent Jeff Davi as commissioner of the Department of Real Estate. The post had been vacant since December.

Davi, 36, would run an agency that regulates real estate transactions and oversees the licensing of agents and brokers. With California’s hot housing market, the number of licensed agents has grown about 10% a month in the last fiscal year to 393,750 as of June 30.

Real estate commissioner -- An article in Tuesday’s Business section about the appointment of a new commissioner for the state Department of Real Estate misspelled the name of former Commissioner Paula Reddish Zinnemann as Paul Reddish Zinneman.

The post pays $123,255 annually and requires state Senate confirmation. Davi would succeed Paul Reddish Zinneman, a Gray Davis appointee who resigned when Schwarzenegger was elected.
