From Times Staff Reports

Councilman Bernard C. Parks, the former police chief who is running for mayor, said Monday that he plans to file a formal request for public records to compel Mayor James K. Hahn to reveal statistics on the deployment of police officers.

Parks, who was pushed out of the Los Angeles Police Department by Hahn in 2002, said a policy that allows officers to work three 12-hour days means fewer officers are on the streets.

Hahn has rejected that charge, saying the schedule improves flexibility and service.
