Birth Parents Too Can Be Dangerous to Kids

Share

Re “Home Can Be a Deadly Choice,” Oct. 14: It is interesting that the social services agencies are informed of foster parents’ involvement with police-related issues but don’t hold the same criteria for our children’s natural parents before returning a child to a previously abusive environment. I would think that checking a birth parent’s recent exposure to police involvement would be as critical as checking that a bed is available for the child. Why isn’t this done routinely?

If police or hospital personnel are involved with a parent, they should be held accountable to relay any information that could endanger children. (I am a foster and adoptive parent.)
