56 Killed, Many Trapped in Coal Mine Explosion

A gas explosion in a coal mine in central China killed 56 people and left scores trapped, the government said.
The explosion occurred at the Daping Mine in the city of Xinmi in Henan province, southwest of Beijing, the official New China News Agency reported, citing local officials.
China’s coal mines are among the world’s deadliest, with thousands of deaths reported each year.
