Military story deserves more prominent spot

Why was Bettijane Levine’s Oct. 27 article, “The Military’s New Catch-22,” in the Calendar section? Seriously. This important story has nothing to do with the arts or entertainment. Rather, it involved terribly troubling issues surrounding the military buildup, the draft, the sustainability of the current approach to staffing in the military and related human interest stories.

Why would the pertinent editors of The Times choose this story for Calendar as opposed to the National section? Does this story really belong next to “Ben’s Big Fall”?

This article deserved a place on the front page. All Americans should be outraged over these stories of veterans who have served their country and who now are being forced to serve even more time in harm’s way.
