Leroidesanimaux Hopes for a Royal Comeback

Leroidesanimaux, who looked like a possibility for the Breeders’ Cup Mile earlier this year, will make his comeback today in the $100,000 Morvich Handicap, a Grade III stakes race over about 6 1/2 furlongs on the Santa Anita turf course.

Besides Leroidesanimaux, who hasn’t run for trainer Bobby Frankel since winning the Inglewood Handicap on May 1 at Hollywood Park, the Morvich attracted De Valmont, Vasywait, Geronimo, Irgunette, Cayoke and Coded Message.

A 4-year-old, Brazilian-bred son of Candy Stripes, Leroidesanimaux has won three of four since coming to the United States, including two victories over the Santa Anita turf course.

Cayoke, who has won 13 of 38, cuts back in distance for owner Michael House and trainer Jeff Mullins. The 7-year-old, who will be ridden by Gary Stevens, has won two of five on this course.

Others who have won on the course are De Valmont, who is two for two for owner David O’Connor and trainer Ruben Cardenas, Geronimo and three-time winner Coded Message.

Race of the day: Total Impact, who won the Hollywood Gold Cup earlier this year, is among a field of six in the $150,000 Fayette, the closing day feature at Keeneland.

The Fayette, a Grade III at 1 1/8 miles, also attracted Midway Road, who set a track record for the distance over a sloppy surface earlier this year, Sonic West, Quest, Grey Beard and Alumni Hall.

Craig Perret will ride Total Impact for trainer Laura de Seroux.

One for the road: Lord Albion won at 8-1 odds in his return to the turf for trainer Wesley Ward and can do it again in the eighth at Bay Meadows.

Ron Warren Jr., who is regarded as the best grass jockey in Northern California, will ride the 6-year-old gelding in the $11,000 starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Lady General in the first, Parfumeur, Malmaison, Well Struck and Golden Bonus in the second and High Concept, Raging Riley, Zatara and General Bob in the third.
