DNA Hearing for Avila Rescheduled for Oct. 8
From Times Staff Reports
A pretrial DNA hearing for the man accused of kidnapping and killing 5-year-old Samantha Runnion was postponed Friday until Oct. 8.
Lawyers for Alejandro Avila, 29, of Lake Elsinore said they needed more time to review the results of DNA testing completed on evidence recovered from their client and from the site in the Cleveland National Forest where Samantha’s body was found in 2002.
Samantha was abducted in July 2002, days shy of her sixth birthday as she played outside her family’s condominium in Stanton.
