Good Thing This Team Is Still in First Place

Jim Tracy now suggests that he plans not to play Hee-Seop Choi. That prompts one to ask the question, “What took you so long?” Viewed in the context of Paul DePodesta’s stated rationale for his move -- to strengthen the Dodgers for the postseason -- I’m prompted to ask, whom did the Dodgers get for the heart and soul of their team, Paul Lo Duca, and the key to the bullpen’s effectiveness, Guillermo Mota? Oh, that’s right ... nobody.

Los Angeles baseball fans would be much better off if we could somehow trade the McCourts and their errand boy, DePodesta. The Dodgers probably won’t be playing in the postseason.

It’s time to give T.J. Simers credit where credit is due. His “Choking Dogs” label for the Dodgers is absolutely dead on, an insightful description of our pathetic baseball team that claims to have the stuff of champions.

All anyone has to do is look at the recent series against St. Louis (a quality team), to realize when it comes to crunch time, the Dodgers are out of their league and totally overmatched, from the on-field talent to the coaching staff. Assuming this was a preview of a possible postseason matchup, I won’t be spending too much time lining up for World Series tickets. It most likely will be three and out.

So Jim Tracy wanted his team to be tested by the Cardinals so they’ll know what to expect in October. If the Dodgers’ play in St. Louis is any indication, they can expect a lot of golf and fishing.

I heard that David Ross, Brent Mayne and Hee-Seop Choi are appearing on the “Stupid Human Tricks” segment of the David Letterman show this week. They will try to get a hit off a major league pitcher.
