Quakes May Augur Eruption of Mauna Loa

Hundreds of earthquakes that have been rumbling more frequently deep beneath the crater of Mauna Loa indicate that the world’s largest volcano is getting ready to erupt, scientists at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.
In May 2002, the 13,677-foot-high volcano began inflating at its caldera, a sign that indicates swelling of its magma reservoir. Mauna Loa last erupted in 1984.
