Puck’s place: a Yu look

So it turns out the owners behind Shelter and Prey have big ambitions. Reza Roohi and Sam Nazarian purchased the El Dorado on San Vicente Avenue in Brentwood, as well as a Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Santa Monica. They’re transforming both into Asian-themed restaurants and nightclubs, with Puck becoming Yu. And Roohi says he’s particularly excited about a new 3,000-square-foot nightclub he’s building at Sunset and Vine called Dig....In more clubland news, Saddle Ranch Chop House owner Larry Pollack says he sold Miyagi’s on the Strip to a Korean company in the supermarket biz. Pollack says he’s gearing up to open a third Saddle Ranch in San Diego, with additional locations in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Austin, Texas.... And in even more clubs-in-flux news, the owners of Dublin’s Irish Whisky Bar on the Sunset Strip sold the sports bar to the owners of Pearl. Dublin’s, however, has reappeared at Xes. The Cahuenga Boulevard club now doubles as Dublin’s during major sporting events. So that means on Monday nights and Sundays for the entire day Xes transforms into a sports bar with plenty of plasma screens and brew specials.

Yoruban sounds

The Conga Room is getting excited about Antibalas, a hot Brooklyn orchestra making its way to the L.A. club on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The 13-member crew performs in Spanish, English and Yoruba.

Back to Xes, we hear its Thursday-night dance club, Truckstop, is causing a convoy. The white-trash-themed night features beer served in cans and girls in Daisy Dukes.

Diff strokes

In the “like father, like son” category, the Diffs (a.k.a. the progeny of T.S.O.L. keyboard player Greg Kuehn) are actually gigging with Dad all week. The Diffs, featuring Kuehn’s teen sons Max and Elvis, are opening for T.S.O.L. tonight at the Showcase in Corona, Saturday at the Loft in Ventura and Sunday at the Malibu Inn.... A little surprise Friday night at the Seether show at the Key Club: Amy Lee of Evanescence sat in with her boyfriend Shaun Morgan to sing the duet “Broken” from “The Punisher” soundtrack. Avril Lavigne, Frankie Muniz and Stephen Baldwin were also in attendance.... Monday Social director Freddy B is ramping up his annual Earthdance fete Saturday. He’s making it an all-nighter in a forest north of L.A. with super talent like Donald Glaude, the Mutaytor and underground DJs such as Taylor, Oscure and Moontribe’s Brian & Brad, plus a second area for more abstract and down-tempo beats and more. This Earthdance will be a simultaneous event with 120 other cities in over 52 countries. For more info, check out: www.earthdance.org/la.
