Vision of comedy

Share

I enjoyed Paul Brownfield’s article on sitcoms [“Sitcoms in the Age of ‘Be Funny or Else,’ ” Sept. 5]. I couldn’t agree with him more.

I have been a comedian and writer for quite a few years and have been frustrated that the studios have such an amorphous vision of comedy, usually skewing toward that enjoyed by only 18- to 28-year-old males -- edgy, mean, loaded with bodily-function jokes. Pity. There are a lot of funny writers and funny ideas out there, but they will probably never get heard or seen on the small screen.
