Toyota Motor Corp. and Nissan Motor Co., Japan’s two largest carmakers, may start production in Russia to boost their market share in what is expected to be the world’s third-fastest-growing car market over the next four years.

The carmakers said they were examining setting up factories in the country.

They would be following General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., which has a five-month waiting list for its Russian-built Ford Focus. Toyota, the biggest importer in the country, expects its sales in Russia to increase 92% next year, while Nissan aims to triple sales.
