History Textbook Draws Ire of S. Korea, China

Japan’s government approved a new junior high history textbook that China and South Korea immediately denounced as whitewashing Japan’s World War II atrocities.
The “New History Textbook,” was among 103 books approved by the Education Ministry for use beginning April 2006.
Critics in Japan, China and South Korea accused the authors of glossing over such crimes as wartime sexual slavery, justifying Tokyo’s military expansion and using wartime propaganda terminology.
