Monday, funny Monday

Among the revelers at the Roxy on Monday night were Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Cypress Hill rapper B-Real, the Cult’s Billy Duffy and Bad Religion guitarist Greg Hetson, who all turned out to partake in the rock ‘n’ roll shenanigans of the great potty-mouthed comedic artistes Metal Skool, who perform at the Sunset Strip club each Monday.... We caught up with Newport Beach surfer-musician Steve “Crabby” Cabler, who survived the Bali bombing of October 2002. Cabler has formed a new band, the Uprising, which he says is very Pennywise-esque, circa “Unknown Road.” You can see the Uprising on April 16 at Club Rain in Costa Mesa.... And speaking of Pennywise, singer Jim Lindberg slipped me an advance of a new track the Hermosa Beach band cut called “Fox T.V.,” a scathing non-ode to the Fox News Channel.

A hard goodbye

Marko 72, the guitarist from Sugarcult, says the close-knit Santa Barbara music community is reeling from the loss of Derrick Plourde, the drummer of such bands as Lagwagon, the Ataris and Bad Astronauts. Plourde was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head March 30. “He had a magnetic charisma that made people want to be in his world,” says Marko, who had known him since junior high.

Woulda, shoulda

Bumped into Geisha House doorman Danny Boy, who tells me I was a day late and a dollar short for Sunday’s wrap party for “My Wife and Kids,” which brought out every member of the Wayans’ clan.... Club Make-Up returns to the El Rey Theatre for a one-night event on April 15 to celebrate the epic television series “Dynasty.” Oh man, you know what that means: Guys dressed as Alexis and Crystal! Let the shoulder padding begin.... Got a sampling of anarchy at Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman’s latest tour, Taste of Chaos, which took place at the Long Beach Arena last Thursday. The event included a battle between the L.A. Derby Dolls’ “Pink” and “Black” teams. That’s right, punk rock girls in fishnet stockings skated around a roller rink, pushing each other around. One brave dame, Iron Maiven, ended up loosing a tooth in an out-of-ring face plant. You go, doll.... Dave Grohl took a stage-dive at Motorhead’s show at the Wiltern LG on Friday night.... Craig Trager, owner of the Well, Daddy’s and NoBar, celebrates the grand opening of his new cafe, Chanting Garden, which opens today behind Prive Salon on Beverly Boulevard.... Word up to Sugar Ray, who donated its time by playing at the Surfers Healing benefit at the Venice Cantina last Wednesday. The event raised money for the group, which teaches autistic youth to surf. Now that’s bro’ing down.
