After a Royal Wedding, a Mixed Reception

Re “ ‘Return of Happiness’ as Charles Weds Camilla,” April 10: Oh look, Prince Charles is harkening back to ancient times, say 500 years ago, give or take a decade.

A history lesson for those who don’t get the reference: In this century, Catholicism is filling every corner of the globe, through the power of the pontiff, and satellite TV, news, radio and print. And yet, bucking the system, England’s male royals continue the age-old tradition of marrying their mistresses.

King Henry VIII would be proud.

Re “Two Doofuses, Too Adorable,” Commentary, April 10: How nice to read Michael Kinsley’s positive comments about the marriage of Charles and Camilla. Apparently these two have cared for each other for years.

Camilla’s fault seems to be that she is not Diana. But was Diana that legendary figure or a product of PR. I agree with Kinsley, this is a true love story. Good for them!

Oh boy, long-term single marriage a fairy tale. Thirty-year adulterous relationship normal. Not for me.

If Prince Charles and the woman in his life are an example of royal behavior, give me Bill Clinton!

After reading Los Angeles Times articles about Prince Charles’ wedding and Pope John Paul II’s funeral, I fervently salute past Americans who believed in and fought for our political system that incorporates separation of church and state and negates royal families from ruling.
