Mea Domina Set for Wilshire

Share

Mea Domina has had no trouble with the turf courses at Del Mar and Santa Anita.

A 4-year-old Dance Brightly filly trained by Ron McAnally for owner-breeder Janis Whitham, Mea Domina is unbeaten in four starts on the lawn. Three of her victories have come at Santa Anita and she also won her grass debut last summer at Del Mar.

Late this afternoon, Mea Domina will try the Hollywood Park turf for the first time when she seeks her third consecutive win of 2005 in the $100,000 Wilshire Handicap, a Grade III stakes at one mile.

Worse than second only once in eight lifetime starts, Mea Domina will be ridden by Tyler Baze, who won an allowance race on Jan. 26 at Santa Anita his only time aboard the filly.

The field also includes Makeup Artist, who won the 2003 Senorita for owner George Krikorian and trainer John Shirreffs over this course, and Amorama, who is back on the grass for trainer Julio Canani after trying the main track twice at Santa Anita.

Race of the day: Castledale, winless in four starts since his improbable victory in the 2004 Santa Anita Derby, is among nine older horses scheduled to run in the $150,000 San Francisco Breeders’ Cup Mile. Rene Douglas will ride the 4-year-old Peintre Celebre colt for owners Greg Knee and Frank Lyons and trainer Jeff Mullins in the Grade II on turf.

One for the road: Bank Audit is on top of her game for trainer Frank Laboccetta Jr. and can win her fourth race in five starts in 2005 in the $150,000 Bed O’Roses Breeders’ Cup Handicap at Aqueduct.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Steal Your Thunder and Megabyte in the fifth, Molengao and Alwayswantmore in the sixth and Rena De Sonora, Proudest Moment and My Kitty Cat in the seventh.

Winners (Final totals for Santa Anita): Previous day/meet total: 2/219. Money: Previous day/meet total: $13/$1,193.80. Total money bet: $1,460.
