‘Lennon’ will be retooled

Producers of the Broadway-bound “Lennon” have scratched a scheduled Boston tryout in the wake of discouraging reviews from the show’s first tryout in San Francisco.

The Yoko Ono-blessed musical features more than 20 of the late Beatle’s songs.

Instead of moving on to Boston after the show ends its run May 14 in San Francisco, producer Allan McKeown said Monday, it “will instead return to the rehearsal room in New York with our cast and creative team to make the changes that will be beneficial to our show.” The planned opening night on Broadway remains July 28.
