Is the Time Ripe for a Another Political Party?
Last Saturday night, I, a staunch Democrat, had a friendly political discussion with our staunch Republican friend. We talked about the reasons why President Bush was reelected. It is so obvious, I said, that his first term was dotted with mistakes. My friend stayed silent, deep in thought as I continued. Republicans won because the Democrats goofed; what about starting a third party?
The words just came out of my mouth, from my subconscious, I think. His head moved a little. Was he agreeing with me without acknowledging his consent? Maybe. Monday morning, Ronald Brownstein’s column is headlined: “Internet, Polarized Politics Create an Opening for a Third Party.” Is it coincident or is the country ready for new leaders?
